Welcome to Cigar Box City CBG's! Where I make your instrument (s) by hand. These Guitars are real instruments made with the finest materials often used in conventional mass produced guitars. Cigar box guitars have a long history in American music. Many notable artists started out with these simply made instruments. Buddy Guy tells a story on You Tube describing building his own using wire for strings.... Today's CBG is a far cry from screen wire, a board and some old box.... Modern electronics allow all the options including power rock blues.

How do you play a guitar with only three strings?
First of all you tune the strings to make a cord. I often tune to G chord (G,D,G) then much like the dulcimer, you just strum. Add a simple slide and it starts to get interesting. Add finger picks to the mix and you enter the world of blues and old time music..... Now we're talkin' Mojo, Baby!
4 strings increase the fun plus you have the options of tunings like Uke's, Fiddles, Mado's . . . etc.
Of course you can also go the 6 string route and you're back to all the traditional tunings of a guitar.
The options are yours - if you are new to the instrument, might I suggest you consider the 3 string as a great place to start. You won't be selling yourself short on anything and you'll have fewer strings to keep track of.
To help you get off on the right track, included is the instructional software from my friend, Keni Lee Burgess. I buy them from him and give them to you with the purchase of your CBG. Oh, you will need a couple of things to help you like picks, maybe a slide and a strap. I make slides from old wine bottles. As far as guitar strings go, I just buy a regular set of medium acoustic guitar strings, and use the three or four of my choice. The Keni Lee instructional information explains all this.

The Lord will save me, and we will sing with stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the temple of the Lord.
